Westfield Construction Accident Injures Man

A 24-year-old man was injured in a construction accident in Westfield on Tuesday morning. He was pinned to the wall by a heavy piece of machinery for around 15 seconds. His coworkers were able to get the machine off of him quickly. The man had trouble breathing after the accident.

"They put matters into their own hands by putting him in a personal vehicle to take him to the hospital on their own, but they decided to call us," he said. "We got there, assessed his condition and based on the mechanism of the injury they described, we decided to call an air ambulance."

Burtron said patients who have difficulty breathing after such an accident could have internal trauma.

The man was working at Fabcon. He was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment. The construction accident will be investigated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
