On September 21, 2006 around 5:00 p.m., a roof collapsed and trapped two employees under the rubble. The men were working on a structure for the Builders Showcase Expo that is set to open September 28, 2006. Most of the workers had finished for the day and only the two men were left on the structure. One of the men died upon impact and the other is at Brooke Army Medical Center. The accident is under investigation by the Greater San Antonio Builders Association and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Some on the job injuries are covered under the Texas Workforce Commission's rules and regulations; this is referred to as the employer is a subscriber. Other employers are nonsubscriber which means they are not provided the same protection as subscribers and may be sued by the employee for injuries received on the job. If you have a question regarding whether your employer is a subscriber or nonsubscriber, you should contact a lawyer so you understand your rights.
