Greenbrier Manor, a nursing home in West Virginia has been sued for elder abuse on behalf of a woman who was a resident there. The woman lived in the nursing home for a few months in 2005. The lawsuit contends that the woman fell a number of times and it may have resulted in a head injury. She also lost 12 percent of her body weight in the short time that she stayed there.

The suit claims Gates suffered from "infections, falls, subdermal hematomas, malnutrition, dehydration and overall functional decline beyond the normal aging process" at the hands of her caregivers.

Gates, who is still living, was taken out of the nursing home by loved ones after suffering her seventh fall, according to Gates' lawyer, James B. McCugh.

The lawsuit is asking for an unspecified amount of money. The administrator of the nursing home and several staff members are listed in the lawsuit.
