Last week nurses from Christus Santa Rosa Hospital's Intensive Care Unit told the news that the ICU is understaffed and it is affecting patient care. Another major San Antonio hospital, University Hospital, is alleging there are too many patients and not enough nurses which is leading to lapses in care for patients and even death. A University nurse, Imelda Balderas stated, "There's not enough nurses to take care of patients being admitted into the ER. That's as simple as it is." She also stated to News 4 WOAI, because there are too few nurses, some patients have died. Nurses gathered to try and form a patient advocacy committee to address the nursing shortage. A University spokesperson, Lenny Kirkman was contacted and said she could not comment on the specific allegations and that the hospital was unaware of any dissatisfaction among the nurses.
