The San Antonio Fire Chief admitted in an interview on Tuesday that paramedic did not check for vital signs on Erica Nicole Smith.

Ms. Smith was deemed dead by a paramedic that responded to a head-on collision in December, 2007. She had severe head injuries and remained inside her Honda for over an hour before the medical examiner came to the scene and discovered her breathing. She was finally taken to the hospital but did not survive.
