General Electric Co. is recalling approximately 244,000 wall ovens because of a potential fire and burn hazard. The ovens affected were sold under then the GE, GE Profile, Monogram and Kenmore brands.

So far no injuries have been reported, but there has been some property damage related to heat escaping from the oven door. Some ovens may have the doors installed incorrectly, which allows potentially dangerous levels of heat to escape during the self cleaning process.

The ovens affected were sold between October 2002 and December 2004 and cost between $900 and $3600. The U.S. Product Safety Commission is asking consumers to immediately inspect their oven to see if it has an improperly reattached door, which will not open into the flat position. If the door will not open into the flat position, consumers should not use the self-clean cycle and can call GE for a free repair at 1-888-569-1588.

For more information go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s web site.
