A person driving a BMW lost control of their vehicle and hit a utility pole in Texarkana, Texas. This resulted in power lines going down and a power outage for 3,500 SWEPCO customers.

The car accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. on south Cowhorn Creek Loop, which connects Mall Drive with Cowhorn Creek Road.

"When the car struck the pole it caused a blackout of a circuit substation, causing a power outage for 3,500 customers initially. We picked up most of those customers and restored their power by 3 o'clock," said Bradley Hardin, spokesman for SWEPCO.

To reconnect their customers, SWEPCO rerouted the power and restored power to a majority of the customers in the affected area. All power was expected to be restored by Saturday afternoon, and there were no other sizable outages, Hardin said.

The power lines were across Cowhorn Creek Loop and traffic had to be routed around the area to keep anyone from being hurt. The Texarkana Fire Department helped during the accident as well as the Texarkana Police Department.
