Progressive's CEO, Glenn Renwick apologized for Progressive's use of private investigators against a couple suing them regarding a 2004 car wreck. The private investigators went undercover and joined the couple's Atlanta church group to find out damaging information about them.

The detectives became a part of a private support group that discussed abortions, sexual orientation and drug addiction and recorded the discussions.

Renwick, who heads the company with a market capitalization of $16.2 billion, said he was appalled by the story, but had found it was essentially accurate. He said that the company's current guidelines would prohibit any type of misrepresentation.
