A competitive bike rider was killed when he collided with a pickup truck in Corpus Christi early yesterday morning. The bicycle and car accident happened at the intersection of Up River Road and the service drive of Interstate 37. The bike rider went through a stop sign just before the accident.

Officers said he was coming down the ramp so fast that the driver of the truck just didn't have any time to react.

"No, there's no sign of any kind of braking or skid marks," Luis Rodriguez of CCPD said. "I talked to the driver and he said he never saw him. He never had the chance to try to stop."

The victim was 63-years-old and he had been a competitive bicyclist for a number of years. He had been training on Sunday with a large group of other riders when he pulled ahead to ride by himself.
