Seven elderly people from La Fuente Adult Daycare Center were killed on Monday after a Pontiac Grand Am smashed into the van they were riding in.

The adult day care center's van was carrying ten people. The severity of the wreck caused the van to roll over and eject three passengers.

Preliminary reports were that the driver of a four-door Pontiac Grand Am failed to yield to the van after making a legal U-turn through a cut in the median at about 8:30 a.m. The Pontiac's driver also was injured; a young boy in the car was not hurt.

Betancourt said the woman likely would be charged with negligent homicide for each of the fatalities, charges that could become more severe if tests for drugs or alcohol come up positive. He said initial reports did not show alcohol to be a factor.
